2005.3.19

Remark:

Remark: We got started.

2008.7.1

Every time you say yes to a goal or objective, you say no to many more. Every prize has its price. The prize is the yes, the price is the no.

2009.1.3

Remark:

2010.1.16

I can't believe I've made it!

Remark: One more step to the prize.

Future

Make sure you get the prize with acceptable price.

Conception of a Rhythm Platformer

What is this rhythm platformer?

Essentially, it IS A PLATFORMER, but the gameplay mechanic encourages (or forces) the player to perform every action IN RHYTHM with the background music.

Imagine you are playing the first Jungle level of Contra. Recall that classical theme. What if you get damage bonus for your shoot if you pull the trigger at a time point that matches the beat of the music? What if you jump higher and further if jump in rhythm with the tune?

Another example. See this video. At 01’55”, there is a sword fight between Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones. The two character wield their swords in rhythm with BGM. What if this is a video game and you play either Jack or Davy Jones to defeat your foe by showing a strong sense of rhythm?

It won’t be the first rhythm platformer ever. Some rhythm/music games have a platformer presentation, such as Maestro! Jump in Music and Ninjammin Beat-jitsu, but the core mechanics of these games are like traditional music game – the player beats the level by giving a pre-defined input sequence with accurate timing, and there is always a unique 'perfect' performance for each of the songs.

My idea is different. It’s more a platformer than a conventional rhythm game. You move freely in the level, you attack at your will. You employ rhythm as a power-up, you strengthen yourself with music.

I have not yet dived deeply into the detail of this concept. I just think it would be cool.
